How To Be Like Harvey Specter

By Min Liu | Celebrities

If you’re a fan of the TV show “Suits”, then you are most likely a massive fan of Harvey Specter, “New York City’s best closer”.  You’ve probably also had daydreams about living Harvey’s life, being an all-around badass, and destroying bad guys while wearing…not a cape…not tights…and not body armor, but while wearing an expensive well-tailored three-piece suit.  In this post, you will start learning how you can channel YOUR inner Harvey Specter!

MINDSETS

“You wanna lose small, I wanna win big.”

– Harvey Specter

Harvey’s success all starts with one very important thing.

No, it’s not his good looks.

No, it’s not even his ability to spot amazing legal talent like Mike Ross.

No, it’s also not his fancy three-piece suit and Italian shoes.

So what’s the ultimate reason why Harvey is so successful?  His mindsets.  Harvey Specter embodies a winner’s mindset like nobody else does.

In the following video, you will learn more about his “winner’s mindset” and some other mindsets that make him who he is, mindsets that you would be wise to adopt if you want to achieve Harvey’s level of success in life:

VERBAL SKILLS

“According to me is the only according to that matters.”

– Harvey Specter

Another essential thing that Harvey has in spades is amazing verbal skills.  From being able to argue his way out of anything to delivering a fitting metaphor at the right time, Harvey almost always ends up on the winning side of arguments, debates, and courtroom battles.

It’s not because he writes amazing legal briefs.

It’s not because he’s got all the case law and statutes memorized.

It’s because he has full command of quite a few verbal weapons at his disposal.

In the following video, you will learn a few of these verbal weapons that Harvey uses over and over to dominate verbal confrontations and important negotiations:

BODY LANGUAGE

“Kill them with success, bury them with a smile.”

-Harvey Specter

Amazing verbal skills are not all that it takes to dominate the bad guys.  Harvey is also a master of powerful and dominant body language.  He’s a fit, tall guy but there are many people who fit that description who are not masters at commanding a room, like Harvey does.

He’s got the swagger and you can tell by the way he walks.

He’s got a knack for timing his body language to enhance (and make more powerful) what he is saying.

In the following video, you will learn how to use body language to appear more powerful and dominant like Harvey Specter:

STRATEGIC THINKING

“Winners don’t make excuses when the other side plays the game.”

-Harvey Specter

A great lawyer or businessman needs to be strategic in his dealings with people including his allies, partners, enemies, and others.

When stakes are high, you cannot wing it.  During all the seasons of Suits, you don’t see Harvey spending his time slaving away at legal briefs or looking at contracts.

You see him staring out the window lost deep in thought.

You see him pondering his next move.

You see him (usually) being one step ahead of his opponent, setting traps for them to walk into.

You see him telling Jessica Pearson, his boss, that she’s “playing chess while everyone else is playing checkers”.

Harvey realizes the other side is always playing games, so he has to play them better than they do.

In the following video, you will learn a few pointers about the strategies Harvey uses to win his battles.
